Natural Attenuation

« Back to Glossary Index

Natural Attenuation is the process where natural environmental processes, such as dilution, dispersion, and microbial degradation, reduce the concentration and impact of contaminants over time. This method relies on the inherent ability of the environment to gradually reduce pollution without active intervention. Natural attenuation can be monitored to ensure that contaminant levels decrease to acceptable levels.
